Water surveys
We undertake silt surveys for piscatorial societies including silt sampling and analysis
Some lakes are easier to survey than others. We survey all types of lakes from lily ponds to the run-off lagoons at airports. We even survey the cooling water ponds in steel works although this can get a little steamy at times.
Even formal lakes such as the one in St James's Park get silted up from time to time. The survey of this lake was quite simple because it is lined with concrete, However, working around the feeding time of the resident pelicans made the job just a little bit more complicated than expected!
The legislation regarding the regulation of retained water bodies may change in the near future. The present limit for registration with the Environment Agency is 25,000m3 but this could be lowered thus capturing many more smaller water bodies into the Act. We conduct accurate surveys to determine the exact amount of water "likely to escape in the event of a dam failure" which is often much lower than the "retained water" figure typically used.
